Iain McGregor is Professor of Psychopharmacology, NHMRC Principal Research Fellow and Director of the Psychopharmacology Laboratory in the School of Psychology at the University of Sydney. Iain's research focuses on the effects of recreational drugs and prescription drugs on brain and behaviour and also involves development of new medications for the treatment of anxiety, depression and addiction. Iain has recently been prominent in demonstrating a novel role for oxytocin in the treatment of alcohol dependence and drug addictions. Iain also has an interest in characterising the toxicity of novel emerging psychoactive drugs such as synthetic cannabinoids, mephedrone and MDPV. This research involves both human clinical studies and research with laboratory animals. Iain also trains clinical psychologists and drug and alcohol workers in psychopharmacology.
