Mike Lehman is Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomical Sciences at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He received his B.A. in Biology-Psychology cum laude from Wesleyan University in 1975, and his Ph.D. in Neuroscience in 1982 from the University of Michigan. Prior to moving to Mississippi, he was Professor and co-Director of the Reproductive Sciences Program at the University of Michigan, and from 2005 to 2010 was Chair of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada. Dr. Lehman is internationally recognized for his research contributions in reproductive neuroendocrinology and circadian rhythms. His lab has focused on functional and structural studies of the GnRH neuroendocrine system in sheep, and its control by steroid hormones and photoperiod, as well as its prenatal programming by androgens. Together with Bob Goodman, he was responsible for the identification of KNDy (kisspeptin/neurokinin B/dynorphin) cells of the arcuate nucleus, paving the way for studies of this neuronal subpopulation in other species. He has published over 140 papers, book chapters and reviews, and has served on numerous grant review panels at NIH and NSF, and has chaired scientific symposia at annual meetings of the Society for Neuroscience, the Endocrine Society, and the Society for the Study of Reproduction. He currently serves as a Senior Editor for the Journal of Neuroendocrinology.
