Ken took up the position of Chair, Centres of Health Research, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Professor of Medicine University of Queensland and Adjust Professor Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane in 2011. He was previously Chairman, Department of Endocrinology, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Professor of Medicine, University of New South Wales, and Head, Pituitary Research Unit, Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, Australia. He obtained his medical degree at the University of Sydney, doctorate degree from the University of New South Wales and undertook postdoctoral studies at the University of Virginia.
His research focuses on pituitary and metabolic disease, the use and abuse of hormones. The work is strongly translational closely integrating laboratory and clinical studies, directed at understanding how hormones act on cells and on the whole body. He has published over 200 scientific papers.
He was the 2000 Visiting Trust Professor and the recipient of the 2008 Asia Oceania Medal of the British Endocrine Society. He has written editorial commentaries for the Lancet. He wrote an invited commentary on “Endocrinology: the next 60 years” to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the British Endocrine Society. He has received regular invitations to chair, speak or conduct “Meet-the-Professor”, Case management Forums and to moderate Clinical Practice Guidelines sessions at the US Endocrine Society, and serves on the Annual Meeting Steering, the Advisory Panel on International Outreach and the Scientific & Educational Programs Core Committees. He is an associate editor for GH and IGF Research, an editorial board member of Endocrinology, Endocrine, Pituitary, Bailliere’s Best Practice and Research, Frontiers in Endocrinology and previously for the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. He is a past-president of the Endocrine Society of Australia and of the Growth Hormone Research Society.
