Prof. Dr. Inga D. Neumann was born in the Jena, in the Eastern Germany, where she studied biology at the Karl-Marx-University (now: University of Leipzig). She spent 2 years as a postdoctoral fellow in Calgary, Canada, where she continued her work on the release of oxytocin and vasopressin in the brain. After her return to Germany, she worked as a Senior scientist at the Max-Planck-Institute of Psychiatry in Munich. In 2001, she was appointed as a Full Professor of Neurobiology/Animal Physiology and Chair of the Department of Behavioural and Molecular Neurobiology at the University of Regensburg, Bavaria. Since 2006, she has been the Director of the Elite-Masters’ Programme “Experimental and Clinical Neurosciences” at the University of Regensburg. Her main scientific interests are the regulation of emotionality (anxiety, depression), social behaviours (social fear, male and female aggression, social recognition) by brain neuropeptides, emotional and neuroendocrine adaptations during motherhood, and the consequences of chronic psychosocial stress on behavioural, neuronal and immunological functions.
