Heike Heuer performed her PhD thesis at the Max Planck Institute for experimental Endocrinology in Hannover (Germany) followed by a postdoctoral training at the Center for Neurobiology & Behavior, Columbia University (NY). Since 2004, she is heading an independent research group at the Leibniz Institute for Age Research/Fritz Lipmann Institute in Jena (Germany) and only recently accepted a tenured group leader position at the Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine (IUF) in Düsseldorf (Germany). Her major reseach focus is to define the pathophysiological functions of thyroid hormone transporters in the brain by studying the respective mouse models.
